For the third month running, our ‘Sole Mates’ walking group outing came on the heels of a named storm. In August, our trip to the Giant’s Ring was preceded by Betty and our trip to Tollymore Forest Park in September by Agnes. Today (Saturday 21 October) storm Babet had thankfully moved on when we set off in shared cars for the River Lagan towpath near Shaw’s Bridge, Belfast.
In contrast to the heavy rain of the previous week, the sun made a welcome reappearance, along with patches of blue sky. While there was a noticeable autumnal chill in the air at the start, this was soon dispelled by some brisk walking and enthusiastic conversation 😊
Golden leaves, and crab apples on over hanging branches, added to the autumnal atmosphere. The possible sighting of a heron near the opposite bank was unfortunately, unable to be collaborated, as our resident ‘twitcher’ had become separated from the main advance party!
A very pleasant morning’s walk concluded with a visit to the Lockkeeper’s Inn for coffee and (optional) scones.
This was our last walk of the present season but we hope to resume our ramblings in Spring 2024 when, once again, all will be welcome to join us.
