Sole Mate ramblings

Our ‘Sole Mates’ Walking Group have been out on their travels again when, on Saturday 19 July, we took the train up to Whitehead on the Antrim coast.

Our walk along the coastal path from Whitehead to Blackhead provided a choice of stages to cater for all abilities. The first section offered a pleasant level path along the shore which made it suitable for all.

Our numbers reduced slightly as we negotiated the second stage through narrow passageways and rocky overhangs on the edge of the sea, to the base of Blackhead.

Only the most intrepid of our number 😊 braved the step ascent up to the lighthouse itself although the magnificent view out to sea, and across the bay back to Whitehead, made the effort well worthwhile. A more gradual descent took us back down to rejoin our colleagues who were waiting for us on the shore path below.

Returning to Whitehead, fellowship continued after our walk as we adjourned to a local ‘hostelry’ for a very enjoyable lunch before catching our train back to Belfast.
