Flights of fancy –
At the end of March, the St Molua’s Men@10 group had a bird-watching outing to Rough Island at the north end of Strangford Lough and were rewarded with sightings of Brent geese, curlews, godwits and shelduck. The Brent geese have returned now to Arctic north Canada but will fly back to us in October.
In May we visited the Ulster Aviation Museum at Long Kesh and spent a couple of hours scrambling in and out of jets and helicopters and enjoying memorabilia about aircraft designed and built by Shorts during WW2. The expertise and enthusiasm of the guides made this a fascinating trip.
Also in May, we had a showing in the Parish Hall of the film ‘Sully: Miracle on the Hudson’ about the enquiry into the American Airways pilot’s decision to ditch into the River Hudson following a bird strike. All 155 passengers and crew survived.
Our programme for the current term concluded with an outing to Dublin by train in June.
If you haven’t made it to Men@10 yet, why not give it a try after the summer break? Everyone is more than welcome to join us. We’ll be back @10.00am on Tuesday 19 September 2023 – who knows where the next flight may take us?
