We were pleased to host our first Repair Café at St Molua’s on the last Saturday in June. It was a great success, and saw many and varied repairs to lamps, bikes, curtains, trouser hems, replacement zips etc… the list goes on. Many visitors came from well beyond the local area, and certainly several of our own parishioners who had booked repair slots declared themselves more than pleased with the results.
Sweet treats at the accompanying ‘Pop-up Café’ were, as expected, very popular with those waiting for their slot. A huge thank you to the willing volunteers from St Molua’s who helped stock and run it.
The volunteer repairers were absolutely unanimous in their praise for the new venue and are keen to come back next year. The parish Eco Group will make sure to inform you as soon as we know a date.
Repair Café is a worldwide movement driven by local volunteers who are passionate about helping us all to be more sustainable in our everyday living. Through offering their skills to make repairs, they are prolonging and rejuvenating the life of our “stuff”, and in the process, perhaps giving us the confidence to try to tackle it ourselves in the future.
